SINCE 1919, BETJEMAN AND BARTON HAS REMAINED FAITHFUL TO ITS CREATORS AND HAS DEFENDED A CERTAIN IDEA OF TEA.

Arthur Betjeman, related to Sir John Betjeman, a well-known poet in England, opened « The English Tea House » in Paris after studying the art of tea in Dublin and London.

Malesherbes, Paris

Soon going into partnership with Percy Barton, he originated Betjeman and Barton. But even if they had introduced a certain English art of tea in Paris, the two gentlemen had to do with the inevitable influence of French taste.

This is how that right balance developped between an English purist, refined and a bit haughty notion about tea, and the freedom of French taste, that curiosity about flavours which is not exempt from fantasy.

Beneath the elegant and somewhat majestic sign in Boulevard Malesherbes, the red and green caddies stored the jewels collected by the two merchants whose success was such that they began to export their tea... towards England!
